A signing ceremony was held on December 17, 2013 at the Capitol Office of the President where His Excellency, Ambassador Kazuhiro Tajiri and the Principals of JFK Elementary School and Ngarchelong Elementary School, Ms. Miriam Watts and Ms. Pamela Swei, respectively, signed a contract to begin the human security projects titled: “The Project for Reconstruction of Typhoon Damaged Facility for Ngarchelong Elementary School” and “The Project for Reconstruction of John F. Kennedy Elementary School”. The Projects are funded by grants awarded to both states from The Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP). Continue reading

Julia Mason, a Harvard graduate from Alamo, California is conducting her research internship at Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC). She graduated summa cum laude in May 2013 from Harvard University with a degree in Environmental Science and Public Policy, and a secondary degree in Organismic and Evolutionary Biology. Ms. Mason is thrilled to be working with PICRC’s research team and its partners in a variety of projects including evaluation of Marine Protected Area (MPA) efficacy as well as to take part in socioeconomic study of coral reef valuation. Her interest is to focus on coral reef ecology, marine conservation, and MPA design. Ms. Mason is funded through a Carl and Lily Pforzheimer Foundation Public Service Fellowship. She began her internship with PICRC in November and will be in Palau until March 2014. Continue reading
