The Ministry of Finance’s Bureau of Budget and Planning recently released it’s schedule of grants received– seventeen (17) grants worth $2,590,880.

 All the grants, but one, were awarded to the Ministry of Health (MOH)– nine (9) by the World Health Organization (WHO) and eight (8) by the US Department of Health and Human Services (USDHHS). The grants awarded to the MOH cover a wide span of health topics, ranging from diabetes awareness to tobacco cessation to funding for HIV prevention programs.

 The largest grants received by the MOH are for: Community Health Center program, to provide funding for Palau’s community health centers program ($918,257); Immunizations and Vaccines for Children grants, to provide funding to support immunization and vaccination for children ($227,101) and the Comprehensive HIV Prevention Project, to provide funding for HIV awareness and prevention programs nationwide ($119,900).

 A single grant was awarded to the Ministry of Education (MOE), by the US Department of Education (USDOE), worth $1,011,283– the grant was awarded to provide funding to support special education to help individuals with disabilities.

 Per Public Law 4-40, sections 23 and 24, grants received by the Republic of Palau are public information and copies of grant awards are available– upon request– for review by the public.
