Matson donates to PICRC

On July 25, 2017, Matson donated $1,000 to Palau International Coral Reef Center.  Matson, a loyal supporter and partner in the region continues to contribute to the protection of the environment and conservation in Palau, Guam, and the region. Not only does Matson support PICRC it also contributes to Palau Conservation Society.

As a leader in Pacific shipping, Matson continues to strengthen its ocean transportation services for Hawaii, Alaska, Guam, Micronesia and the South Pacific. In the past decade, the Matson fleet has welcomed four newly-built containerships, all equipped with more fuel-efficient diesel engines, state-of-the-art shipboard technology and a number of “green” environmentally friendly design elements.  It is truly a leader in the Pacific not only in shipping but also for the environment.  In addition, Matson, Inc. established the Matson Foundation to administer all of the company’s corporate giving programs.  The Matson Foundation contributes funds, material goods and services to assist in the development and operation of not-for-profit, charitable and community organizations in the geographic locations in which Matson has business operations.

“Throughout the company’s long history, Matson has demonstrated its commitment to supporting organizations that seek to improve the quality of life in communities in which our employees live and work,” said Matt Cox, president and CEO, Matson, Inc.

PICRC would like to thank Ms. Bernadette Valencia, the General Manager for Matson, in Guam and Micronesia region for their generous contribution.   Dr. Yimnang Golbuu, Chief Executive Officer for PICRC expressed their appreciation, “It is because partnerships like Matson, from the private sector that public organizations like PICRC can continue to thrive to better research the environment and provide information to help for its conservation.  We greatly appreciate the private public partnerships that make our work possible”.
